Linux lab machines that open in a browser tab

Full, isolated machines your students reach from any laptop, with nothing to install and nothing to configure. Kali with a vulnerable target nested inside one host is one template — not the whole product.

  • 01Nothing to install, on any operating system
  • 02One private machine per student, never shared
  • 03The disk survives a stop — only a reset clears it

The sand rail marks an open seat. When the instructor closes it, the rail and the launch button both go away.

01 / 07 · Roles

One platform, four portals

Each role sees only what it can act on. A control that does not belong to a role is absent from that portal, not greyed out — which is why nobody has to be trained out of clicking the wrong thing.

Student
one action per card

Sees only the machines their instructors have opened. One primary action, and the disk is kept when they stop.

Instructor
availability + power

Opens and closes seats, provisions in batches, watches live cost. Availability is theirs alone to set.

Institute
seats · hours · spend

Invoices and CSV export for finance. No power controls exist in this portal at all — not disabled, absent.

Admin
immutable audit log

Platform operations, and an audit log that attributes every destructive action to a named person.

02 / 07 · Environments

The ethical hacking lab is one template

Every course gets the environment it needs, pinned to a golden image — so a seat is byte-for-byte identical in week one and in the exam, this semester and the next.

03 / 07 · Instructor

The instructor holds the keys

  • 01Availability is separate from power. Opening a seat costs nothing and starts nothing.
  • 02Closing a seat removes the student's launch button without touching their disk.
  • 03Reset names the student whose work will be destroyed, and cannot be undone.

Two numbers. A seat rate you can budget from the enrolment list, and an hourly rate that only runs while a machine is actually on.

06 / 07 · Questions

Questions, answered

Do students need to install anything?

No. Everything runs on VPSed infrastructure and streams to the browser. Any laptop, any operating system, any network — including a locked-down campus one.

Is student work saved between sessions?

Yes. Stopping a machine keeps the disk, so students pick up exactly where they left off. Only an explicit instructor reset restores the clean image, and it names the student first.

How is each student isolated?

Every student gets their own private machine, reachable only by them. There is no shared state and no cross-talk between seats.

How does pricing work?

Per seat, per course, plus a machine-hour rate for the time a machine is actually running. No compute meters to interpret and no surprise bills.
